DAO SWORD is a Chinese blade workshop in Longquan, Zhejiang, China. We focus on hand-forged Chinese swords and knives — dao, jian, Tang Hengdao, and related forms — built for collectors, martial artists, and cultural enthusiasts who want honest specifications, not empty hype.
Our workshop
Sword-making has deep roots in Longquan and across Zhejiang’s historic forging centers. Our team works with traditional forging, heat treatment, polishing, and mounting practices adapted for today’s collectors: clear steel choices, published lengths and hardness where available, and finishes suited to display, training, or cutting practice as labeled on each product page.
We do not invent fictional named “ancient clans” or unverifiable individual smith biographies. What we stand behind is process, materials, and after-sales support you can verify.
How our blades are made (overview)
- Steel selection — High-manganese, pattern (Damascus-style), high-carbon, or stainless options depending on the model. Each product page lists the steel type for that SKU.
- Forging & heat treatment — Blades are shaped and heat-treated for the intended use (collector / training / cutting as stated).
- Grind, polish & edge — Geometry and finish are completed with hand finishing; edge condition (sharp / blunt / unsharpened) is stated per product when applicable.
- Mountings & scabbard — Guards, handles, wrappings, and scabbards are fitted to the model; custom materials can be requested on our Custom page.
- Inspection & packing — Blades are checked before secure export packing for international shipment.
Materials — honest wording
- Pattern / folded-style steels: visual layers for collectors; performance depends on the specific heat treatment of that model.
- High-manganese / high-carbon steels: common for training and practical blades when labeled as such.
- Stainless options: easier care for display-focused pieces.
We avoid unverifiable claims. Product pages list the specs that apply to each sword.
